Gasum chooses Litra as strategic logistics partner in the Nordic area
Going forward, Gasum’s liquefied gas products will be transported with liquefied biogas in Finland. In Sweden and Norway gas has been the transport fuel already for some time now.
The energy company Gasum has signed new long-term contracts with Litra, one of Scandinavia’s largest and oldest transport companies for the provision of liquefied gas road transport services. Starting in fall 2024 Litra will be responsible for transporting most of Gasum’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied biogas (LBG) products in Finland, Sweden and Norway.
Litra will provide transport planning, maintenance and trucking services for the fleet of trailers owned by Gasum. The company is already active in Sweden and Norway but is now making its market entry into Finland.
Until now, only about a quarter of Gasum’s liquefied gas products have been transported in Finland using biogas as fuel. Litra is committed to handling virtually all transports with gas-powered trucks also in Finland, which means making investments into a gas-driven fleet for Gasum’s transports.
This improvement will have a positive impact on Gasum’s carbon footprint. In Sweden and Norway Gasum’s products will continue to be transported with gas powered trucks, as earlier.
Excellent safety and operational performance
By consolidating trucking services to one strategic contractor, Gasum aims to standardize processes, increase flexibility and improve asset utilization. Ultimately Gasum’s customers will benefit from more effective and streamlined deliveries.
“This agreement will further strengthen Gasum’s reputation as a safe and resilient provider of gas. Gasum is familiar with Litra’s excellent track record of safety and operational performance in Sweden and Norway, and we look forward to expanding the collaboration to Finland. We trust that this partnership with Litra will enable us to deliver on our promises and enhance performance even further. We are also proud that our environmental footprint will be reduced together with higher potential productivity of our trailer assets, says Anders Malm, Gasum’s Senior Vice President, Supply & Trading.
“With Gasum being a leading gas provider in the region with very high standards on safety and operation, we are proud to be chosen by Gasum as the partner for the road transport of gas. With more than 100 years of experience solving complex logistical challenges, we look forward to working with Gasum to further develop optimizations and performance in Norway and Sweden, and utilizing our experience to ensure that the expansion into Finland provides the same low-carbon, safe and streamlined operation that Litra has delivered in Norway and Sweden”, says Vegard Narmo, CEO of the Litra Group
Complete gas value chain
Gasum offers its customers a flexible modern energy platform of complete end-to-end value chains in biogas, natural gas and renewable power. The company operates over 100 gas filling stations, 17 biogas plants as well as several liquefied gas terminals and bunker vessels in Finland, Sweden and Norway.
Liquefied biogas, LBG, is a fully renewable and environmentally friendly fuel with life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions that are, on average, 90% lower when compared with fossil fuel use. Gasum’s biogas is produced from waste feedstocks such as biowaste, sewage sludge, manure and other industrial and agricultural side streams.
Gasum’s strategic goal is to bring seven terawatt hours (7 TWh) of renewable gas yearly to the Nordic market by 2027. This is four times more than today and would mean a combined annual carbon dioxide reduction of 1.8 million tons for Gasum’s customers.
