Plant Operator Sutatta Sathon: Growing as a professional and as a person

I’ve been working as Plant Operator at Gasum’s biogas plant in Nymölla since 2022. My role is unique compared to those in traditional biogas plants because in Nymölla we produce biogas from process wastewater generated by Sylvamo’s paper mill in Nymölla. In addition to overseeing the smooth operation of the process works and troubleshooting any issues that might arise, I work at the plant’s laboratory where we test every batch of the process water to optimize and adjust the process accordingly.

Before joining Gasum I didn’t know anything about what the company did and I certainly didn’t know that biogas can be produced from effluent. I’m interested in automation technology and process industry and have some experience working in the field. My current position allows me to combine both areas of interest. My role has provided me with the opportunity to continuously develop my expertise while taking on new challenges and responsibilities. 

At Gasum I’ve had the chance to explore various facets of the business and in the near future, I look forward to focusing more on automation. My work is both intellectually stimulating and versatile, enabling me to expand my skill set and advance in my career. 

Along with other new skills, my work has allowed me to improve my communication skills. Although my native language is Thai, I regurlarly communicate in Swedish or English at work, and this has boosted my confidence in using these languages, even outside work. Working at Gasum has truly made a difference in my professional and personal development. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and growth opportunities provided by Gasum.
