Guiding the Swedish transport sector towards a cleaner future
Sharareh Edström is proud of Gasum’s ability to execute its decisions at an almost startup-like pace. During her years leading Gasum Traffic in Sweden she has developed the business to cater to the transport sector on its way towards decarbonization.
I’ve been working at Gasum since 2021. Before that I worked 13 years in the automotive industry in c-level positions successfully driving the industry towards sustainability. What drew me to Gasum was the greater steps in sustainability that I could take by expanding the needed infrastructure for biogas. Thus, my mission at Gasum is to lead the decarbonization of the transport industry. And as the Head of Traffic at Gasum Sweden, that is exactly what I’m here to do.

I have a master’s degree in business administration. I’ve specialized in organizational development and internationalization. However, I wanted to work with something tangible and that is how I originally shifted towards the automotive industry. I have worked with sales and business development and shouldered the role of Managing Director in whole sales and retail. At Gasum my work is mainly to make sure that our people understand and are engaged in the development needed to scale our traffic business, no matter if it’s IT, internal systems or customer care, all are needed for successful scaling.
Before joining Gasum I thought I could never work in a state-owned company because I had the impression that state-owned companies are stagnant. However, Gasum is different. I am very proud that if Gasum makes a decision, it will also execute it. This is not something that is given in the corporate world. Actually, in Sweden, Gasum Traffic is and has been viewed as a startup within the field. We have developed our filling station network at such a pace that it has earned us the rightful admiration.
When it comes to sustainability, I believe that actions speak louder than words. I also believe that partnerships are the fastest way to shift gears. In addition to developing our sales structures, my task at Gasum is to build co-operation models to ensure the successful scaling of our business and carrying out Gasum’s purpose: providing cleaner energy to our customers. Even though gas is a stepping stone towards a fossil free future and decarbonization of the transport industry, it is also a solution that is both low-emission, fully developed and readily available.
