Jarno Jokinen: Professional growth through diverse roles
Over the course of fifteen years, Jarno Jokinen has witnessed both his own professional growth and Gasum’s transformation into a renewable energy pioneer. Diverse roles and meaningful work have defined his journey within the company.
I work at Gasum as an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) system and contract manager with a Nordic role covering Finland, Sweden, and Norway. Our team oversees the operation and maintenance of gas filling stations, gas terminals for customers, and gas transport units as trailers and gas containers across the Nordic region. My role includes managing our operation and maintenance related systems, developing them to meet operational needs. I am also responsible for overseeing the entire contract process—from request for quotation to signing the contract. After the contract is finalized, I also ensure that the parties comply with the contract terms. This involves, for example, participating in steering group meetings and monitoring the achievement of KPI targets. This work involves traveling approximately one to two days a week, either in Finland or abroad.

I’ve been with Gasum since 2010 or 2011, depending on how you look at it. I graduated as an engineer during the peak of the financial crisis at the end of 2009, and finding a job was extremely challenging. However, through a staffing agency, I secured a one-month assistant role in a Gasum project digitizing a document storage in 2010. The project went well, and more tasks followed until I was eventually offered a permanent position at Gasum. Before stepping into my current role, I worked as a technical assistant, product manager in several areas, manager in gas logistics, development manager and service manager for gas filling stations in Sweden.
Some say you should change employers every five years, but at Gasum, I’ve been able to switch roles without switching companies. Over the years, I’ve had many diverse tasks and worked with supervisors who’ve helped me grow professionally. One aspect I truly value at Gasum is the empowering atmosphere - if you dare to take responsibility, it's given to you, allowing for independent decision-making. This has further enriched my experience, enabling me to find meaningful work and varied roles that align with my interests within the company
I’ve also enjoyed witnessing Gasum’s transformation. Some people might still think of Gasum as a seller of fossil-based natural gas, but that’s no longer the case. Over the past decade, the company has evolved significantly. For instance, we now operate over 100 gas filling stations, 18 biogas plants producing biogas for various purposes and more to come. In addition, Gasum offers eco-friendly fuel solutions for maritime transportation, energy market services and more. Today, we’re a diversified company focused on providing renewable energy solutions.
